The IAOMS Foundation Fellowship Online Application Process will be open from August 1 to November 1, 2017.


Funded by the IAOMS Foundation, this unique Fellowship Program launched in 2009 with the intent to provide trainee surgeons an unmatched cultural experience while being immersed in their specialty. The program runs for one year beginning on September 1 and ending the following August.

The IAOMS Foundation annually funds up to three advanced fellowships in Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery and Cleft Lip and Palate/Craniofacial Surgery. Since the inaugural class of Fellows, twenty-one surgeons have participated in this program. The IAOMS Foundation gratefully acknowledges the KLS Martin Group for its ongoing and dedicated support of the Fellowship program.

For the Program year (2018-2019), the Foundation will award two Fellowships in Oral and Maxillofacial Oncologic & Reconstructive Surgery (one in Shanghai and one in Beijing, China) and one in Cleft Lip and Palate and Craniofacial Surgery (in Bangalore and Hyderabad, India). Each Fellowship will run from September 1, 2018 to August 31, 2019.

Three Senior Trainee or recent graduate surgeons will be awarded an immersion year in their specialty combined with an unmatched cultural experience. The program criteria are as follows:

  • Dental or Medical Degree or both, consistent with candidate's country's requirements.

  • Completion of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Training (Residency) Program by June 30, 2018.

  • No more than five years after completion of oral and maxillofacial surgery residency.

  • Desire to pursue an academic career. Desire to share learned knowledge and skills with colleagues upon returning home from Fellowship.

  • IAOMS membership for 12 months preceding application deadline or a two year membership commitment to IAOMS. If you have questions about your membership, please contact Katie Cairns.
    Candidates are invited to apply online and submit the following materials on or before November 1, 2017:

  • A personal statement explaining why the applicant should be considered for the Fellowship.

  • Curriculum Vitae.

  • Signed Letter of Recommendation from Training Program Director.

  • Signed Letter from supporting institute documenting the applicant's privileges in oral and maxillofacial surgery. (Note: A Letter of Privileges certifies that the applicant was a trainee or post-graduate trainee in a specifically-named department. The letter should come from the applicant's professor or department head and outline the specific privileges the applicant enjoyed while in the program [i.e., types of surgery, diagnosis, how often, etc.]. All letters of privilege should be signed and sent on official letterhead which should include__ the name of the institution or business of their practice and contact information.)

  • Signed Letters of recommendation from two (2) members of IAOMS or applicant's affiliated national association.

  • Signed Confidentiality Agreement.
